Geothermal energy in SVG

Another form of energy that can be used in SVG is geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy is energy derived from the heat of the earth. This energy can be brought to the earth’s surface but larger pipes which are dug underground the distance is approximately 4000 miles. Temperatures underground are understood to be at least 5000 degrees centigrade. Heat from the centre of the earth conducts outwards and heats up the outer layers of rock called the mantle. When this type of rock melts and becomes molten it is called magma. Magma can reach just below the earth’s surface. SVG being a volcanic island can use such energy to help decrease the effects of global warming.

Advantages of geothermal energy:
1.       It is Cost Saving: Geothermal energy normally involves low running costs since it saves 80% costs over fossil fuels and because there is no fuel is used to generate the power, the  costs for purchasing, transporting and cleaning up plants is quite low.

2.       Reduce Dependence on Fossil Fuels: the increase of geothermal energy helps to decrease the dependency of fossil fuel. With the fluctuating   prices of oil, many countries are pushing companies to adopt these clean sources of energy. Burning of fossil fuels releases greenhouse gases which are responsible for global warming, which is bad for the country.

3.      It is a renewable resource which, therefore it would always be available to persons.

How can "blogs" be used to support and enhance Teaching and Learning in schools in St.Vincent and the Grenadines?

What is a blog?
A blog may be define as a short for web log. Which allows students to publish ideas, it may be seen as an online journal or dairy. (Christopher pappas2013).

How can blogs be used to enhance teaching:

  •    The teacher might have a large classroom, and may not be able to respond to each student individually, causing some to feel left out and lost. The blog can help such students, if they were not able to get the teachers attention, they can post their concerns on the blog. The teacher can then answer all their problems. This way the student would be able to learn what they missed in class.

  •    The teacher may not be able to make it in class, instead of wasting the day without any teaching. The teacher can have a discussion of what he/she had planned to teach in class, on the blog. This way the students can still be in line with the course outline, and would be able to express them self.

  •      Blogs can enhance students  writing , and thinking skills. If there is a discussion on the blog page, the students would have to think of interesting ideas to post to continue the discussion. The students would also have to post such discussion in Standard English, which would help them to become more familiar with the language. If however a student finds it difficult to post in Standard English the teacher can correct such student.

  •     It also enhances students reading and understanding skills, because students would have to read and try to understand what their other colleagues are saying.

same sex marriages

Same sex marriage may be define as marriage between partners of the same sex.

Same sex marriage seems to be a tending fashion in The United States of America and other countries in which it is legalized. But the question is should it be legalized in St. Vincent and the Grenadines? , I strongly believe that it should not be legalized.

As stated in Leviticus 20 verse 13 “And if a man lies with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death. The bible states that it is wrong for such indecency to be condone. St. Vincent is seen as a religious country in that case we should follow the wrongs in the bible, but strive to do the right things mentioned. Legalizing such criminal activity would go against the religious belief of the country. Although some may argue that it is the person’s right to do as they want and marry who they want. But it is also the other person’s religious rights to not be in a country which encourages such activity. Eve a woman was created from Adam, the almighty did not create  both of them of the same kind, so why should we change that creation?.

in conclusion St.Vincent should strive to keep this tend out of their boarders.

why are so many students afraid of maths?

  1. According to the online dictionary, Mathematics may be define as :    The study of the measurement, properties, and relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols

Why are so many of our students so mathematically afraid?

Many may blame the teachers for students not liking the subject. some of the reason may be :

  •       The student may have had past bad maths experience .The student may have   answered the wrong answer in class, and being embarrassed by their teacher in front of the entire class. This may have caused student to not participate again in class, and in the long round having a fear of answering the wrong answers. Although this may not justify the true reason for many students to not like maths or be afraid of it.

  •      Some students may blame other teachers for their hatred towards math. This may be true in some cases, for example if a teacher does not like what he or she is teaching, then their attitude towards the lesson can affect students learning.  The teacher wont put in efficient energy in the lesson causing it to be boring.Or the teacher may not want to teach the subject, and might just come to the class and give activities from the text book for students to struggle with,  making the subject to appear as a punishment rather than  an enjoyable subject.

  •      Because the subject is compulsory though out the  primary and secondary school, the teacher is highly responsible in making the subject not feel as a boot camp, but as and amusement park. The use of different, easy and understandable strategies can help the students to enjoy and like maths. Rather than the pressure of having to learn and cannot run from it mentality
